Critical Reflection Questions

How do your products represent social groups or issues? Due to the coronavirus pandemic, pretty much everyone globally has come to know what it feels like for life to be shut down unexpectedly. Masks, testing, talk about vaccines, and the ever-present looming of a disease has become a social norm and something everyone has become accustomed to. Our movie centers around  a group of friends going on their winter break vacation in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Fort Lauderdale is definitely one of the most visited places for young adults during the spring break season, so we figured that a virus hitting right at that peak of excitement and joy would be something our viewers could possibly relate to since the coronavirus surfaced in March 2020. While this health issue doesn’t highlight a specific or small “social group”, it is still definitely an issue that lingers in society today. The sudden two week lockdown also mirrored the events of the real world with the shut-downs of multipl...

Day 4 of Filming

Image
Hi everyone! We filmed again today! After this we should really only have one scene left to shoot. Today we got the guardhouse scene completely filmed. Herb, our security guard, was supposed to be played by Spencer Regli. Unfortunately, Spencer has just as difficult a schedule as we do. With work at 4 and school ending at 3, Spencer just wasn’t able to make it. This last minute change lead to improvisation. Hillery’s older brother, Mikey Brinkworth, was able to help us our and take on the role of Herb. However, Mikey is also a busy guy and had a work meeting at 4:30. We had only 45 minutes to film this entire scene and for Mikey to learn his part. We all met up near the guardhouse that is at the entrance to Chloe’s neighborhood. I quickly read over Mikey’s lines with him while Blake drove Hillery’s car to the right position to being filming. Chloe and Hillery worked together to find the right camera shots and angles for the scene. With only 30 minutes left we started doing take after t...

Day 3 of Filming

Hey everybody! Another day of filming all done. Today, my group and I met up around 10 AM at GFS. GFS is a grocery store that is nearby where all of us live. We decided against Publix because they are usually fairly crowded and we were afraid of not getting the shots we wanted. When we got to the store we filmed a shot of Hillery’s car pulling into a parking space with Blake driving. Afterwards, we walked in and grabbed a card to use as a prop. We used the script as a guide and made our way through the aisles of food and supplies. Using Hillery’s iPhone 11, we took turns and filmed almost everything twice: once with all of us and once with just Blake. We have a plot twist planned for the ending of our film that requires shots to be done twice. There was only one small problem with the filming at the grocery store, they had copyrighted music playing quietly for the shoppers to enjoy. We did, however, figure out how to manipulate this music in editing so we should be good to go. We only ...
