Thanksgiving Break: to film or not to film?

Image
Happy Thanksgiving! This past week, November 23-27, we have had no school due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Half of my film group went away and celebrated Thanksgiving with their families somewhere else. We did all stay in contact, however, through our texting group chat. We spoke quite often about the social media, blogging, filming ideas, details, and any other concerns we may have had. In our chat we made the decision, as previously discussed in my last blog, to only include copyright-free music in our film in order to avoid having to ask an artist for permission which could be time consuming and could alter our filming schedule. We also talked about our individual blogs and decided what information we wanted to include within them so that we could all be on the same page. I did meet with one group member, Chloe Stein, over the break since we were both in the same place. Chloe and I met (and social distanced!) to discuss our personal ideas for filming and also to do some researc...

Movie Music

Image
Music is without a doubt one of the most important aspects a film can have. The audio has the ability to drastically change the mood of a scene, the reaction of a character, the time period in which the movie is set, and so much more. The intensity or emotions of a moment can be altered to an extent that doesn't even seem possible due to music choice alone. In cinematography, we have even seen certain music become iconic and immediately associated with a movie or event. This could be the daunting and terrifying music playing in the horror/thriller Psycho (1960) as Marion is attacked in the shower, or the emotional, heartfelt delivery of "My Heart Will Go On" sung by Celine Dion in the movie Titanic (1997). As a group, we have been discussing the music that we want included in our film. We are breaking things down scene by scene, and sometimes line by line in order to create the best movie we can. All of us understand the incredible effect that music can have when used co...

Marketing and Social Media

Image
Last week, my group and I worked together to create social media accounts for our film. We made each of the usernames some variation of the movie title and then included the word "film" in order to establish that the account is for a movie rather than an individual person. We created accounts on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube. In order to do this we also created an email for our film that each account is linked to. We are all logged into each account and are monitoring their activity closely. Below you can see the logo we have designed and decided to use as profile pictures for the time being. We are discussing as a group the different content we plan to post. In addition to all of the social media platforms we have also created a website that is linked in each of our account profiles. The website also includes the link for each individual social media. The plan is to use these social media accounts to market our film and hopefully develop an excited audience befo...

Storyboard for Short Film

Storyboard Pages 1 and 2: Road Trip to the Vacation House (2020 Vision) Throughout these 2 pages, our goal through the storyboarding process was to portray the overall purpose of the scene. In the early interpretation of this script, the heading read, “Four high school friends are on their way to their vacation home to celebrate spring break 2020. The city is packed with tons of spring breakers and traffic is at an all time peak. The four friends continue happily into Fort Lauderdale, and are excited for the warm weather and beautiful beaches.” As such, we thought it was appropriate to include drone footage of a lot of the scenery. Additionally, we included multiple mid shots of the individual characters as they shared their thoughts and ideas. Finally, we also included multiple shots of the car the characters would be driving in. This adds an additional action packed element to the scene, as the car rolls down the street with the drone following it with a profile and head on shot. Ove...

2020 Vision Planning Blog

Image
The schedule for the 2020 Vision Production goes as follows: throughout the first week of December, we are going to wait on further guidance from our respective teachers, as the situation with the ongoing pandemic is unknown. Moving onto the second week, with an anticipated due date of early spring, we want to begin an in-depth plan on how the production process will go, including the shots, camera angles, mise-en-scene, and other various aspects. On the third week of December, the filming process will begin. On December 16th and 17th, filming will take place at actors' respective houses. This includes the scenes of the actors arriving at the houses, the news broadcast, and other various scenes. Then on the 18th, we will go to our local Publix, assuming permission is given, and then on the 19th, to the testing center. In the third week of December, we will first begin with planning the editing techniques and timeframe, and then follow up with 3 days of consecutive editing. Finally,...
